RECIF
A contemporary adaptation of the myth of Orpheus and Eurydice, “Reef” is a poetic allusion to the two sides of the same world, heaven and hell.
In a blind world, a clown takes off her dark glasses and regains her sight. Through this act, she becomes the “ferryman”, the one who sees the birth of shapes, colors, humans dragged down by violence, crushed by violence. Orpheus and Eurydice appear in this tormented world, drunk with happiness. As in the myth, love does not escape death, and Orpheus is about to fall into “hell”, an obscure realm here transposed to the corrupt world of trafficking, profiteers and gamblers. He’ll fight, play against himself, cheat and win to find Eurydice…”. I’m lost! Where are we going? Do we have to love each other to live?” the clown asks herself, challenging us and, in the process, leading us to look ever higher in our quest for Love. Time is short, let’s fly away on the thread of our dreams before they become dust…

Drawing on the experience of his previous shows, Philippe Riou imagines a vast playing space (a 210m2 pvc canvas stretched over scaffolding) on which dancers, actors, aerial acrobats, painters and musicians explode in a profusion of colors, in a succession of tableaux.
Throughout the show, the 16 artists suspended in the void create a monumental pictorial work to the rhythm of a lively musical creation.
Created in France for the “Chalon dans la Rue” Festival, “Récif” has conquered a wide range of audiences on numerous tours across Europe, Brazil, Russia, South Korea… At each stop, part of the text is translated and performed in the language of the host country, making it easy for the audience to embrace the poetry of this show.
